Folk Magic of the Hurdy-Gurdy and White Voice Singing
Marta Bejma – vocalist, composer, lyricist, hurdy-gurdy player. A graduate of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. Always connected to the world of culture and art, she has won the Toruń Stars Poll several times, earning the President of Toruń’s Award. She also received the Special SWAP Award at the Cała Jaskrawość Festival. She is the founder and leader of the well-known Starless band in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region, a longtime choir member, and a passionate musician.
Currently, she performs with her original folk repertoire titled “Niech Się Niesie” (Let It Resonate), where she plays the hurdy-gurdy and sings, incorporating the white voice vocal technique.
This is a traditional form of singing that takes us back in time. The atmosphere of the pieces varies, ranging from cheerful and lively to nostalgic and sentimental. The Niech Się Niesie concert is definitely a journey everyone should experience at least once. The phrase “Painting with Music” fits perfectly here, as during the concert, you can imagine what life used to look like. You can lose yourself in musical landscapes. In addition to original songs, there will also be performances of traditional folk songs such as “W moim ogródecku,” “Lipka zielona,” and “Czerwone jabłuszko.” The entire performance is enriched with traditional motifs and beautiful costumes, referencing the folk traditions and attire of the Kujawy and Pałuki regions. The Niech Się Niesie experience also includes a musical education component, introducing instruments that are not commonly used today.
