Wianek is an electro-folk duo formed by Klaudia Wójcik and Michał Burek. Traditional Polish folk songs, in the form that one dances to today in the dark clubs of cities, mixed with the atmosphere of ancient tales and forests hidden in the mist. Love, awe, nostalgia, sorrow, sung for centuries from generation to generation, passed down through the language of the people of their time. The language of the times we live in today – is modern, faster, and at times, even club-like in its form.
Wianek’s concerts are stories about ancient customs and always represent a story told, either through narration or purely through music. Our mission is to bring closer ancient, folk music in a modern interpretation, as if it were created in contemporary times. Wianek was born as a result of the acquaintance between Klaudia Wójcik and Michał Burek. The duo met in Kraków during intimate arranged concerts at the Scena Perspektywa – a local space for artists. Initially, the project was intended solely to be Klaudia’s graduation recital at the Capitol Musical Study in Wrocław. Michał arranged the pieces for piano, which mostly took the form of jazz improvisations. However, the duo’s fascination with electronic music and their cohesive vision evolved into a fusion of tradition and modernity. The upcoming EP is themed around wedding motifs. An inseparable inspiration and motivator for the new pieces is Oskar Kolberg.
