One of the greatest saxophonists in the history of jazz – Jan Garbarek – is coming back to Poland! The Norwegian musician, together with his supergroup and one of the world’s finest drummers, Trilok Gurtu, will perform on May 13 in Szczecin!
Every Jan Garbarek concert is an event that stays in memory for a long time. His music breathes — and gives space to breathe. It has a sound that is simple yet complex. On one hand, it’s intricate like a hymn; on the other, it’s minimalistic, playful, sometimes solemn and contemplative — but always open. It’s impossible to talk about jazz today without mentioning this outstanding saxophonist. Fascinated by folk and ethnic traditions, he loves musical journeys through time and space — a trait that colors his music and inspires encounters with artists from various cultures and styles.
His last Polish concert, held in 2011 at the Dominican Church in Poznań, still resonates in the memory of everyone who had the privilege to be there. His performances unfold in a deeply organic style, building a sense of ever-growing tension. Since Jan Garbarek rarely appears in Poland, it would be unwise to miss his May performance at the Szczecin Philharmonic.
